What 4G LTE actually is ??

Letter 'G' in 4G stands for Generation. 4G is the fourth generation of mobile data technology succeeding 3G as defined by the Radio sector of International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R).

ITU-R set standard for 4G connectivity in March,2008 requiring all services described as 4G to adhere to a set of speed and connection standards. For mobile use including smartphones and tablets, connection speeds need to have a peak of at least 100 Mbit/s, and for stationary uses such as mobile hotspots at least 1 Gbit/s.

When 4G standards were set, they were bit unreachable. However, much improvements were made in network and services which were ahead to that of 3G but not at par with 4G. These improvements which were an effort to achieve 4G standards were termed as LTE i.e. Long Term Evolution.

Later on, the telecom companies started advertising their connections as 4G LTE, which is a marketing technique that claims to provide next-gen. connectivity without reaching the set standards.

Frankly speaking, today here in India whenever your cellphone shows 4G, its really not 4G !!
